Madison is a beautiful, historic Connecticut coastal town located approximately
15 miles east of New Haven and 35 miles south of Hartford. The town encompasses
approximately 35 square miles and is accessible via 1-95, which provides easy
access to the major cultural centers of New Haven and New York to the west and
New London, Providence and Boston to the east.
Madison’s charming Main Street district is an excellent example of a thriving
downtown. It is flanked by historic sites that date back to 1685 and features
a multitude of restaurants, clothing and antique stores, a wonderful public library,
a two-screen cinema featuring art films, specialty shops and a variety of other
stores. A new Stop & Shop grocery store is conveniently
located in town. Madison also boasts extensive public recreational facilities,
as well as private golf and tennis clubs.
Madison is home to beautiful Hammonasset State Park, the largest of Connecticut’s
state parks, with 923 acres of recreation area. The park includes two miles of
beaches, swimming facilities, picnicking areas, salt-water fishing, scuba diving,
boat launch areas, hiking trails, and campsites. There is also a nature center
with educational facilities and interpretive programs.
